You may be asking yourself, “Why should I open a tutoring center?” It’s a valid question and one that all tutors need to at least consider. While opening a tutoring center isn’t for everyone, there are many reasons why you should consider opening one. Three reasons stand out to me.
Serve More Students
To me, the best reason to open a tutoring center is so that you can serve more students. Let’s face the facts. You only have so many hours in the day, which means you can only work with a limited number of students. By opening a tutoring center, you can easily increase the number of students you are serving by more than 100%.
It’s simple math. Let’s say that you currently tutor five students per day. Multiply that by four days. You serve about 20 students per week. Now, what if you brought on an additional tutor? Each of you can tutor 5 students per day, four days a week. That means you’re now serving 40 students per week.
By serving more students, you are able to share your love for learning on a larger scale while making a greater impact.
Increase Your Income
Let’s be honest. A business that doesn’t make money is just a hobby. We all have to put food on our tables, clothe our children, and pay the light bill. Making money is a necessity. Opening a tutoring center will allow you to increase your income. When you hire additional tutors, you pay them a portion of the money that your clients pay and the business keeps the rest. The more money the business makes, the more money you get to put into your pocket.
Expand Your Services
We can’t be experts on everything. We all have our specialties. For example, I am a trained elementary teacher. I’m familiar with the curriculum and the developmental stages of elementary children. I feel very confident tutoring all elementary subject areas. But high school chemistry? Calculus? SAT Prep? No way! I wouldn’t even attempt to try to tutor those subjects. Faking it until you make it doesn’t work in this situation. It would be more like fake it until you fall flat on your face. However, those high school subjects are some of our most requested services at my center. By hiring tutors who are experts in those areas, I was able to expand the services we offer. That means increased income and we are able to serve more students.
These are just a few reasons why you should open a tutoring center. What’s holding you back from taking the leap? Let me know in the comments or in our FB group.
